X-Ray astronomy

One example of observations of X-rays is the INTEGRAL satellite of the European Space Agency (ESA).

INTEGRAL satellite

The INTEGRAL satellite is an ESA project in co-operation with Russia and the USA. INTEGRAL actually stands for INTErnational Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory. However, INTEGRAL detects radiation with its four instruments in the X-ray and gamma range with energies between 3 keV and 20MeV. INTEGRAL has been orbiting the Earth in an elliptical path since 2002, helping researchers to find out more about special objects such as black holes, neutron stars, supernovae and gamma-ray bursts. This is because they all emit radiation in the X-ray or gamma range.
