Even if it is not very obvious in our everyday life, we inhabitants of Earth are in fact on a grand journey through the vastness of the universe. Year after year, we move with the Earth once around our home star, the Sun, and are thus part of a large celestial mobile in which stars, planets, moons, comets and other celestial bodies orbit.

Since the age of space travel, man-made spacecraft have joined these natural celestial objects. Virtual swarms of satellites are orbiting the Earth, and space probes visit our neighbouring planets and their moons.

Our Sun is part of a large galaxy that we call the Milky Way. The lens of a telescope even enables us to peer beyond the boundaries of the Milky Way and observe other galaxies.
