National adaptation policy processes in European countries – 2014
Extreme weather driving countries to adapt to climate change
Adapting to climate change has reached the political agenda in most European countries, according to the most comprehensive analysis of adaptation in Europe published to date. Extreme weather events and EU policies were the most common reasons for beginning to address adaptation.
This report of the European Environment Agency draws on the results of a self-assessment survey conducted on national adaptation policy processes in Europe. Some 30 EEA member countries (Switzerland included) provided their responses on a voluntary basis. The analysis of the inputs led to interesting findings about the awareness of adaptaion and stakeholder involvment, implementing measures, assessing risks and vulnerabilities, monitoring and evaluation as well as the coordination of adaption.
