Climate CH2025: The climate future of Switzerland

More extreme heat in summer, drier summers, less snow in winter, and increasingly frequent heavy precipitation: the consequences of climate change are becoming more severe and progressing rapidly. Swiss climate scenarios illustrate how and in which regions these developments are having an impact, and provide a more detailed look at the future climate of our country.

As an Alpine country, Switzerland is clearly feeling the effects of climate change. But what can we do to prevent and take action? To answer this question, we need reliable and up-to-date data. The Swiss climate scenarios, developed by the Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology MeteoSwiss in collaboration with ETH Zurich and the Center for Climate Systems Modeling (C2SM) under the umbrella of the National Center for Climate Services (NCCS), form the indispensable scientific basis for this. The climate scenarios show the possible future of the Swiss climate at different levels of global warming. They show the climate conditions that will prevail in Switzerland once the global average temperature has risen to 1.5 degrees Celsius (1.5-degree world), 2 degrees Celsius (2-degree world) or 3 degrees Celsius (3-degree world) above the pre-industrial temperature level of 1871–1900.
