Università di Ginevra

At the University of Geneva, hydrology is taught in the Bachelor's programme Earth and Environmental Sciences and in the Master's programme Environmental Sciences. While the Bachelor's programme focuses on hydrogeology, the Master's programme takes a more interdisciplinary approach to water.

  • Géologie générale I & II
  • Limnogéologie
  • Introduction à l’hydrogéologie

Study content

This study programme offers an interdisciplinary approach to studying the functioning of the environment and its interaction with humans and society. Each of the environmental issues addressed during the course – climate, energy, water, biodiversity, territories – is studied from the point of view of science, social sciences, economics and law. The curriculum offers five specializations:

  • Water Sciences

  • Biodiversity, Ecosystems and Society
  • Climate Impacts
  • Sustainable Development and Urbanization
  • Energy

Focus in the field of hydrology

The purpose of the «Water Science» track is to transmit the theoretical and practical knowledge that is required studying and understanding the major bio-physicochemical processes taking place in continental surface waters. Human-induced alterations of these processes are placed within a general framework linked to the functioning of aquatic ecosystems, so that they can contribute to the understanding and resolution of the problems which are, for example, related to the management, development and preservation of water resources, to the establishment of quality diagnoses of aquatic systems, to the supply of drinking water and to waste water treatment.

Teaching language

  • French
  • English (a few courses)

Courses in the field of hydrology specifically offered in this study programme
