Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam - Research position in archaeological and forensic isotope biogeochemistry

The Geology & Geochemistry (G&G) research group of the Department of Earth Sciences has a vacancy for a junior or senior (postdoctoral) researcher to strengthen the team responsible for carrying out forensic and archaeological isotope research in the Netherlands. The G&G group consists of ~ 30 research and technical staff. Research addresses a diverse set of questions that range from the formation and differentiation of the terrestrial planets to the environmental impact of human activity. This vibrant and internationally renowned group has consistently obtained major EU and national funding, including infrastructure investment and runs state-of-the-art geochemical facilities.

London South Bank University - PhD: biomechanics of the fabella

The fabella, a sesamoid bone located in the lateral head of the gastrocnemius, behind the lateral femoral condyle. Interestingly, it is the only bone in the human body that is more common today than 100 years ago (~3.5 times more common) Recent analyses on global prevalence rates have shown fabella are more common in older individuals than younger, men than women, and people from Asia/Oceania compared to those from Europe/Africa.

The SNSF launches 2017 call for National Centres of Competence in Research (NCCRs)

The goal of the NCCR funding scheme is to finance long-term, high-quality research projects of national significance and promote the sustainable development of competence centres and structural capacities at higher education institutions. In addition to federal funds, NCCRs receive funding from the higher education institutions and from third parties.
